Galton Valley Pumping station is open on the second Saturday of the month 10am-3pm. Combine your visit with a free guided walk to the Old Smethwick Engine House foundations. On Saturday 14 September and Saturday 21 September (Heritage Open Days) there will be two guided walks; at 10am and 12noon. The Smethwick Engine was one of James Watt’s early steam engines (1779) used to pump water up the canal locks and is now preserved at Thinktank.. The site was excavated in 1985 and roofed over for protection and is not normally accessible.

Visit the Galton Valley Pumping Station and discover the story of the Galton Valley canal system and the people that lived and worked on it.

The museum is manned by volunteers from the Friends group. Dates for 2019: May 11, Sat June 8, Sat July 13, Sat Aug 10, Sat Sept 14, Sept 21 and Sat Oct 12.

Entry to the museum is free and there are light refreshments available. Sorry there are no toilet facilities.
